The MI8 was chosen by the customer due to its highly customisable design. The request to Massenza was for a rig that was suitable for a combination of drilling water wells, mining research and geotechnics.
The supplied MI8, which is crawler mounted with a specific ground pressure for easy access to any working area, even on the most difficult soil conditions, is able to perform 45° inclined wireline coring up to 800-1000m with NQ rods and drilling with continuous flight augers (up to 20m depth and 114mm diameter).
In addition to this, the client request included, among other things, that the drilling machine could also drill water wells with DTH hammer (114mm and 178mm) and reverse-circulation system.
In order to achieve all of the customer's requirements, this MI8 is equipped with a Stage III B / Tier 4 interim VM engine with a maximum power output of 107hp (79kW). The rig has a 12t pullup, a wireline winch with 1000m of rope, Eurodrill multipurpose high-speed RH 15 model head with a maximum torque of 10660Nm and maximum speed 1000rpm. There is a registration system for drilling parameters too.
A drill pipe container is mounted on the side of the rig for N.10 PQ rods (3m long) and it can be easily dismounted.
