The project involved installing 14 piles, each with a volume of 300m3, that make up the foundations of the new building. The first stage was carried out by two Liebherr HS 885 HD machines and one HS 8130 HD, each fitted with a mechanical grab and an oscillator. In order to achieve the necessary depth of 50m, Vibro required ten working days per pile. The reason for the long production time was due to the difficult ground conditions. Firstly, groundwater emerged, followed by rock with a very high strength of 150MPa. In order to penetrate this hard layer, the RCD method was used. With a diameter of 3m, about 40 truck mixers full of concrete were required for the completion of each pile.
The job site was located in the middle of a residential area of Kowloon and directly bordered existing buildings. In order to keep the noise level for the residents as low as possible, the piling work was only be carried out between 07.00 and 19.00hrs, six days a week. Using Liebherr's Eco-Silent Mode on the cranes, engine speed was reduced to a predefined level resulting in both a significant reduction in diesel consumption and lower noise emissions without any impact on operation output.
