Bauer rigs brought in to pile ice hockey world championship site in Russia

The globally operating, innovative studio of architects of Vienna-based Coop Himmelblau was awarded the contract for the new stadium and the general contractor in charge is a local company OOO Gorka.

Construction works of the extravagant arena started in 2020 and are due to be completed in 2023. The total area of the job site is 300,096m2 with a ground floor area of the arena of 14,699m2. The total height of the building will be 59m.

In total four drill rigs of Bauer's long-term clients ZAO PKT Saturn-2001 and OOO Moststroyprojekt were operating to build the bored pile foundation for the mega project.

One Bauer BG 28 and three Bauer BG 36 were being used to drill bored piles with a diameter of 800mm and a depth of 35m.

Upon its completion, the new SCA Arena with a capacity of 21,500 to 23,000 visitors will be the world's largest ice hockey arena. After the world championships, the local ice hockey club SCA St. Petersburg is going to play in the arena.
