Scheduled for an official opening in July 2021, the new facility will consolidate Intertek's minerals operations into a single 19,000m2 building and house over 500 employees. With the simultaneous introduction of PhotonAssay services, the centre's state-of-the-art laboratory will support mining and exploration customers with faster, more accurate and environmentally-friendly analysis of gold and complementary elements.

John Fowler, Intertek's senior vice president of Minerals and Exploration & Production, said: "Our new Minerals Global Centre of Excellence is designed to provide instant and efficient access to world-class technology, expertise and service. Incorporating Chrysos PhotonAssay into this exciting new facility delivers on our commitment to investing in advanced technology to continuously improve quality, sustainability, safety, efficiency and deliver value for our clients."

Chrysos chief executive, Dirk Treasure, added: "Chrysos is excited to be partnering with Intertek as it brings the Minerals Global Centre of Excellence to life. It is a world-class facility that showcases Intertek's unwavering focus on leveraging innovation for customer advantage."

Hitting samples with high-energy X-rays, Chrysos PhotonAssay causes excitation of atomic nuclei allowing enhanced analysis of gold, silver, and complementary elements in as little as two minutes.

Importantly, the non-destructive process allows large samples of up to 500g to be measured and provides a true bulk reading independent of the chemical or physical form of the sample.

The technology is also measurably safer and more environmentally friendly than previous assay processes, something that aligns with Intertek's stated purpose of bringing quality, safety, and sustainability to life.

"Intertek continually evaluates new innovations to deliver customer value. In that vein, we feel our partnership with Chrysos is more than a simple investment in faster, cleaner operations; we see it as a social and environmental commitment to our customers and the broader global industry," said Fowler.

Treasure agreed the strong foundations upon which the new partnership was being built could lead to future expansion of the alliance. "Combining superior customer service with environmental stewardship is certainly an ethos that resonates strongly with Chrysos. In Intertek, we have a similarly-minded partner that not only wants to provide exceptional outcomes for its clients but wishes to tread a little lighter on the planet whilst doing it. That's an approach to value creation that Chrysos finds incredibly compelling."
