TasPorts assumed responsibility for the delivery of the project from Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) in August 2021, after funding challenges were identified. TasPorts CEO Anthony Donald said following a retender process in late 2021, pile driving works have been undertaken and are now complete with the project on track for completion this year. "Tasmanian-owned company BridgePro Engineering was appointed as the principal contractor earlier this year.
"BridgePro successfully completed a geotechnical investigation last month, providing valuable input into the final design parameters of the pontoon and the rock revetment, to ensure the design is suited to the complex environmental conditions at the Port of Stanley," Donald said.
"The $1.5 million project is anticipated to be completed in late 2022 and will see the installation of a recreational floating pontoon facility, as well as the replacement of approximately 50m of the sheet pile wall in Fisherman's Dock with a rock revetment.
"As a key component of the project, bespoke floating pontoons and gangway infrastructure have been ordered from an Australian manufacturer and are expected to arrive on site in mid-late 2022."
"Alongside the project, TasPorts will be undertaking investigations and consultation to determine an appropriate and effective methodology to repair or replace the remaining 100m of the sheet pile wall to ensure the ongoing use of the Fisherman's Dock for the local fishing fleet and community," Donald added.
