CAN's geotechnical maintenance and assessment works in South London

CAN sees the benefits of RSK acquisition during project with RSK Geotechnical Consultancy

Slope stabilisation work being undertaken by CAN in South London

The project was awarded by Genco, the facilities management company for Waitrose, following CAN's initial geotechnical inspection of the site and the geotechnical stabilisation work undertaken by a previous contractor, which recommended the maintenance and additional works including the design the remedial measures.

Specifically, CAN, known for its slope and rock-face stabilisation capabilities as well as its geotechnical inspection and design and build services, developed the specification and undertook works to make the existing rock netting solution safe, while also stabilising other identified areas.

Works included de-vegetation and scaling of the face, followed by clearing fallen rock debris from the existing rock netting system; two areas of the rock face identified as high risk saw 700m2 additional rock netting installed (mix of Geobrugg Deltax and Maccaferri DT rock netting) along with 8no, 3m-long spot bolts and infilling a 0.54m3 void to stabilise discrete rock features.

Speaking about the project, CAN's business development director, Ben Foulger, said: "CAN has always undertaken design work in-house, but following its acquisition by RSK Group, it has  developed a strong relationship with RSK Geotechnical Consultancy, who is now its design partner - a collaborative move, which not only increases design capacity but also the capability that CAN can offer."

Geotechnical inspection at the site was performed late 2017 but CAN has only recently (May 2019 - June 2019) undertaken the works, which were completed on-time and to the satisfaction of the client.
