The tunnel was excavated one-metre at a time from the bottom of the site's 45m deep shaft using a sprayed concrete lining (SCL) method. This technique involves spraying the excavated ground with concrete to form the primary lining of the tunnel.

When the new super sewer is complete, the tunnel will transport raw intercepted sewage into the Thames Tideway Tunnel, which runs from Acton Storm Tanks in West London to Abbey Mills Pumping Station in East London.

The exterior of the segments being used to line the main tunnel are now visible; however, the team will not breakthrough into the main tunnel until its construction is complete.
